As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer the first of two similar Japanese Shibayama style onlaid panels , the first panel is finely detailed with the use of ivory ,bone, abalone and lacquered wood and immediately draws your eye towards a wonderful abalone shell dragonfly landing on a seed pod , the decoration is quite superb yet captured in simple Japanese taste , the quality of the carving and lacquer work in particular sets these panels apart from the more traditional mass produced black lacquer panels that were exported in great numbers , the panel is signed with the use of two red seals , the first reads Nakano which is a Japanese surname and the other reads Shuko which is the artists art name, a magnificent decorative work of art !!

The condition is superb throughout , the panels were protected behind shabby glass frames for many years and have now been reframed by our workshops using 19th century Japanese timber .
