As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer this rare subject 18th century Edo period netsuke of a Mongolian archer, this well carved study depicts the archer dressed in very elaborate clothing and wearing a finely detailed hat, he carries a quiver of arrows over his right shoulder and holds a couple of arrows in that hand , he carries his bow over his left shoulder, a lovely original netsuke that has clearly been used as intended long before the advent of the export market.
The condition is great with a lovely mellow colour and the usual array of stable age lines expected in a netsuke of this age, the netsuke has a very tactile feel with no obvious sign of damage despite its 230 plus years of use.
