As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer this highly decorative and super quality pair of Meiji period hardwood panels, the panels are slightly convex and would have undoubtedly been housed in a much larger object , probably the lower pair of sliding doors from a very good Shodana cabinet , each is finished with a gold lacquer border in lovely unworn condition , and then individually decorated with ivory, bone , abalone and other semi precious shells and high quality lacquer work , the subject matter includes Dragons , Butterflies and vases of floral displays, it is not uncommon to find these panels badly damaged and beyond repair , we are pleased to say that we were offered these panels in lovely condition throughout , we decided to have them housed in purpose built boxed frames , fitted with the latest reflection free glass, this makes them highly decorative and useable pictures and should hopefully help preserve them for the next 100 plus years !
