As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this wonderful quality and most charming one piece ivory Okimono by the recorded Tokyo school artist, Suzuki Juban (art name Toshifumi ) , the carver has skilfully captured the moment where a young boy pulls his coat above his head to presumably shelter from the rain, he wears traditional Geta (wooden clogs) and carries a stacking Jubako (picnic basket) to his waist, the hair and facial features in particular are carved to an exceptionally high standard , signed in a carved signature to the base of this one piece ivory Okimono.
Note: Suzuki Jubun was a member of the Tokyo Chokokai (The Tokyo Carvers’ Association) in 1906.
