As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this fine quality Japanese Meiji period satsuma vase, the large and unusual vase depicts three hand painted panels between sumptuous gold and silver decorated Teal ground borders , the gilded borders are of the highest quality imaginable and often seen on the finest work from the Kinkozan studio , the three highly glazed painted panels are deliberately decorated in a kind of impressionist style but to a very good standard , they probably replicate earlier Japanese woodcut paintings , the first panel depicts three characters at rest in a wooded setting , one of whom raises a Sword , the second panel simply decorated with a village scene before a Mountainous backdrop, whilst the third , and probably my favourite panel depicts a songbird amidst native Flora with a pair of Butterflies in flight above , each panel framed within stunning quality formal gilded bands , the vase nicely signed to the underside by a rare artist known as Yozan , this artist is referred to in the Louis Lawrence Satsuma book ” The romance of Japan “, a wonderful high quality vase that will enhance any good Satsuma collection.
