As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this large heavy Japanese Meiji period (1868-1912) damascened iron box in the manner of Komai of Kyoto, on this occasion manufactured by one of the contemporary company’s of the period. This lovely hinged box is unusually decorated with the seven gods of good fortune to the lid as well as their implements to the sides, the inside reveals a gilded interior with a carved decorated inner lid, the box stands on four bracket feet with a signature underside, the box is heavy for its size and is decorated on iron.
