As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this stunning quality Meiji period (1868-1912) circa 1890 , carved Ivory Okimono by a listed Tokyo school artist Kikuchi Godo, the carver has captured the moment a beautiful Bijin stands in thoughtful pose clutching a scroll to her chest with a writing implement in her right hand , her full length Kimono has been decorated in exquisite detail carved to perfection in low relief and depicting Fans and a Ho ho Bird (Phoenix) amid a plethora of native Flora , her hair tied impeccably in traditional fashion and held in place with tassled combs, the facial features and hands carved to painstakingly accurate detail , this one piece Okimono is by a top drawer well recorded Meiji period artist, and would seriously enhance your Okimono or Japanese works of art collection , signed to the underside within an oval seal that translates to read “Kikuchi Godo”
