As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this super quality highly decorative Meiji period 1868-1912, Shibayama box on stand ,circa 1900, the main body of this delightful trinket box is finished in a Gold lacquer ground, both to the interior and underside , the base and lid mounted with Silver rims for both decorative and protective purpose , the outer body is smothered throughout in a Millefiori style Shibayama technique , literally hundreds of individually carved Mother of Pearl , Abalone, multi coloured Shells and hardstone flowers adorn the surface , the larger more dominant flowers further applied to this scattered ground , the flowers painstakingly decorated with multi coloured Stamen , the delightful trinket box stands upon its original carved and pierced fitted hardwood base, it only fits into the recess one way and still fits like a glove, the interior of the lid is signed in a Mother of pearl tablet and translates to read Masamitsu , a well known Shibayama specialist of the Meiji Period , an absolute delight as an addition to your Japanese works of art collection , or as a special gift for a loved one .
