As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this lovely quality pair of Meiji period 1868-1912 Satsuma vases by the well known artist Shozan , although primarily known as a Kinkozan artist, on this occasion he is painting for the Koshida company , in these splendid 6 sided vases he has captured 12 scenes of everyday Japanese life over the course of a year , one of my particular favourites is the snow scene in December , the children have made a huge fat faced snowman , in another scene in either April or May you will see the Bijins parading whilst celebrating Sakura ( cherry Blossom season ) many other pursuits are captured throughout the year , the bases and necks of each vase are beautifully decorated with high quality millefiori decoration above traditional geometric borders at the base, and gilded bands at the neck , the vases are clearly artist signed Shozan in a red cartouche to the underside as well as being signed with the factory seal of the Koshida company, a fascinating high quality pair of Satsuma vases from the Meiji period that would make a great addition to any Japanese works of art or Satsuma collection .
