As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this exceptional quality Meiji period 1868-1912, circa 1895 Satsuma vase signed by the highly regarded Meizan , the vase is decorated with enamels and gilding typical of the slightly earlier Satsuma wares of the late 19th c , these painting techniques used by artists such as Meizan , Seikozan and Hankinzan to an almost jewel like effect , the artist has painted the vase with three main themed bands , a central band of Bijins and children in various tranquil pursuits , a lower band of flora and an upper band containing a range of Butterflies, each band sits between further geometric borders themselves painted and gilded in painstaking detail , the vase is further decorated with a floral gilded rim , artist signed to the underside in a two character gilt signature that reads Meizan , a fantastic addition to your Satsuma collection cabinet .
