As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this very well carved and humorous Meiji Period 1868-1912 , hardwood okimono, this unique carving depicts a Priest crouching before a small conch shell, his right hand clutching the rim of the shell, he has an understandable grimace on his face as he is burdened by a massive conch shell tethered to his back , the holy man wears a finely detailed gilded band around his head and tied in a bow, crouched and fixed to his original carved wood base, this humorous but incredibly well detailed okimono would make a fantastic decorative statement , and a great addition to your room setting or Japanese works of art collection
