As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this large Meiji period 1868-1912 bronze and mixed metal charger depicting a giant resting upon the top of Mount Fuji, the artist has skillfully captured a humorous portrayal of a giant character, possibly Hotei, his head resting upon his hand whilst gazing across the snow capped tip of Mount Fuji, apparently studying a pair of Manchurian Cranes flying into the distance, the high quality mixed metal character is set in relief upon the bronze panel, his gown and in particular his gold decorated cloak are rendered in fine detail throughout, the facial features and expressions including silver teeth and stubble give this giant character a restful and comical charm, the heavy panel is fitted with a wavy edged silver rim and houses a wire for hanging, a fine piece of Meiji period mixed metalwork to brighten up any wall space .
