As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this outstanding condition Edo Period 1612-1868, circa 17oo , very large Imari palette charger manufactured at the Arita kilns in the late 17th early 18th century during the Genroku period 1688-1704 , the vibrant Imari decoration consists of a central Ikebana display upon a terrace above which are seen butterflies in flight , the outer rim decoration displays interspersed panels of a Bijin seated alongside a child whilst practicing calligraphy, most unusually with her breast exposed, the opposing panels decorated with traditional flora, a fine example of Japanese export wares destined for the wealthy European households of the period.
