As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this most charming Meiji Period (1868-1912) silvered bronze okimono of a cockatoo upon its original bronze and mixed metal decorated stand. This most enchanting study captures the bird in a one legged pose upon a sturdy branch with its head cocked as if about to preen its talon, the shakudo beak and jet black eyes bring this beautiful bird to life and nicely contrast the softer tones of silvered bronze featherwork. The light gold highlights to the cheeks and crest are likely representative of a sulpher crested cockatoo, native of Australasia and surrounding islands. A most beautiful rarely seen okimono that would undoubtedly become a cherished item in most households, whether Japanese afficionados or not.
