Dear Friends
Welcome to our October newsletter.
In last month’s newsletter I featured the catalogue of the one owner Japanese garden collection, handpicked by Dr Carl Duisberg during his travels in the early 20th century and subsequently displayed in the grounds of the German pharmaceutical giant, Bayer, for almost a century. This fascinating group of objects instantly caught the imagination of many readers, the catalogue has been viewed hundreds of times and some key pieces have already found new homes, thank you to those clients who have secured those remarkable items.
I am slightly bemused as to why my favourite sculpture, the Bears, have yet to be rehomed. I honestly thought they would be first out of the door, such is their charm, do give them a further look, they would certainly suit any garden or large orangery type setting, whether Japanese themed or not. Worldwide delivery can be arranged.
This huge scale jardiniere or water feature will be going live online today for your perusal, a magnificent statement piece that’s sure to impress: simply click the image for further details.
Another animalia item to find a new home last month was this very rare okimono of a giraffe by Genryusai Seiya, migrating from its former home in Australia to its new resting place in the UK.
With the passing of the Asian Art New York series of sales and exhibitions, we now look ahead to the Asian Art London series of events diarised for later in the month. You will of course need no reminder that my main focus as we enter this period has been to proof read and prepare my 2025 exhibition catalogue for its annual October launch.
I am delighted to announce that a page-turning edition of my production will go live to my online database at 13.00 (GMT) on the 8th of October, followed by general circulation a few days later.

Last year, as in previous years, a few key pieces were missed by numerous clients, one piece in particular could have sold a dozen times over. Whilst this is frustrating for both parties, it also reinforces the demand for the very best. Please be assured that any or all e-mailed enquiries will be treated on a first come basis.
I look forward to your feedback and any product related enquiries via e-mail to steve@steveslyjapaneseart.com in the first instance.
On a personal note, the news of my granddaughter being scouted to trial for the AFC Bournemouth ladies football academy was certainly one of the highlights of my year, especially given my history within AFCB. Little Alice aged 8, was handpicked by coaches to go into two trial sessions on consecutive weeks, amongst the youngest in a large group of trialists her unique football skills enabled her to reach the final stages. Following a painstaking wait, we eventually received the amazing news that she was to be offered an induction into the ladies set up, a major achievement for someone so young.
Alice will now receive the very best coaching available, all funded by the Premier league. And so, the hard work starts here, as her first arduous 90-minute training session proved, this is a huge step up in every respect, hopefully there is a long and exciting journey ahead, one that we will support her every step of the way.
Her first reward was a visit to the club store for a full set of AFCB winter training kit, she looks quite pleased to be a cherry, don’t you think??
And finally, with my catalogue finished and delivered on time, I now look forward to some Winter sun in the beautiful Algarve, this may delay my November newsletter by a few days, if indeed I return at all 😊
Best wishes
Steve
