As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this wonderful quality carved Meiji period Ivory Okimono of a thwarted rat catcher, the artist has cleverly captured the moment when a rat escaped from his trap and sat upon the trappers shoulder, the facial expression tells the full story, in his hand he is holding his utensils, another rat looks to escape from the trap, the rat catchers hair is tied back in impeccable fashion, the artist has even captured the in shaven details on the mans face, this okimono is signed to the underside with a red seal signature that read’s “Seiwa”, it has a lovely mellow colour and will enhance any good collection.
