As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer this stunning quality Japanese silver and enamel dish or wall panel , the fan shaped twelve lobed panel is decorated with fine enamelled multi coloured floral detailing to the extremities of the finely worked silver wired bamboo style outer lobes , a further segmented inner border houses an array of enamelled implements, fans and banners while the solid silver central cartouche is finely hand hammered, chisselled and enamelled with a peacock amidst a tranquil garden setting surrounded by roses and superb quality onlaid mixed metal foliage , the central panel bears a signature that translates to read carved by MASAYOSHI, there were a few famous artists using this name during the Edo and Meiji period , we cannot be precise enough to name the exact artist and anyway these type of wares were usually a collaboration between a silversmith and an enamellist, whoever made the panel was certainly working at an incredibly high level , a wonderful Japanese work of art .
The condition for such an intricate and delicate piece is quite remarkable , no silver damage or obvious signs of repair and only light expected signs of enamel wear from cleaning.
