As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this Meiji Period (1868-1912) pure silver table box artist signed Katsutoshi koku (engraved by Katsutoshi), the lid of this silver box is formed from shibuichi further decorated with mixed alloys including gold, silver, shakudo and copper, onlaid in fine detail portraying a scene of a duck coming in to land upon a lakeside setting. It is possible the metal artist Katsutoshi drew inspiration from a painting by Ohara Koson (1877-1945) a prolific artist of bird and wildlife paintings of the period, one of a handful of artists producing such tranquil naturalistic scenes in watercolours, upon paper and silk. The design of the lid is most exquisite and very pleasing to the eye, the chiselling is very finely rendered, a perfect gift for the lady or Japanese art lover in your life.
