As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this superb late 18th c manju netsuke, this particular example is finely carved with the most intricate pierced detail depicting one of the sixteen Ahrats ( a group of legendary figures in Buddhism ), the character appears to be accompanied by a shi – shi or lion dog, to the rear of the netsuke is a further Ahrat balancing what appears to be a tied parcel above his head, this late 18th / early 19th century Edo period netsuke has mellowed to a most wonderful honey colour and would be a fantastic addition to any netsuke collection.
