As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this charming Meiji Period (1868-1912) boxwood netsuke of a rat firmly clutching a chestnut whilst sat with its tail curled up around its back, little rodent as this are always a popular subject, this particular rat has inset jet eyes and huge ears, one of which has an apparent old bite mark, himotoshi to the underside , a great colour and very tactile little rodent.
Provenance :
The rat comes direct from a private Dorset lady who’s gran gifted it to her in the early 1970’s .
