As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this highly decorative Meiji period lidded box in the form of a Karabitsu ( traditional treasure chest ) the body is finely decorated with flowers , buds and scrolling leaves inlaid in Silver and Gold on a traditional black ground, the casket raised on six elegantly curved legs each further highlighted with floral and formal Gilt decoration, the underside signed in a Gilt script Yoshitoyo, a highly decorative and useful trinket box.
Notes: Although the artist Yoshitoyo appears to be largely unrecorded, another example of his work can be found in the Nasser D. Khalili collection of Japanese art, metalwork , part one , plate 37.
The condition is lovely throughout with minor age related wear.
