As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this fine quality Meiji period 1868-1912 Satsuma ware vase from the studios of the highly regarded Kinkozan, this two panel vase is finished with a traditional cobalt blue ground interspersed in sensational gilt leaf with a central honeycomb diaper band and a similarly gilded fern and floral neck & shoulders , the main panels framed within shaped gilt bands and decorated in exquisite detail, the first panel depicts families in pavilions as a backdrop to children playing with puppy dogs, the reverse by contrast a very still scene of a hanging scroll aside an open shelf shodana adorned with Scholars implements, to the foreground utensils are laid out in preparation for a tea ceremony, this delightful vase carries impressed and painted Kinkozan factory seals to the underside, however most unusually Kinkozan has signed each of the main panels on this occasion .
