As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this most charming Meiji Period 1868-1912, okimono group of a wise old owl resting upon a branch, the diminutive silvered bronze owl is artist signed in a seal by Mitani and rests upon a naturalistic bronze and mixed metal decorated fruit bearing tree, this base once again signed Mitani in an oval cartouche. The artist has portrayed this majestic bird of prey in captivating detail, the finely cast silvered bronze feather work has aged and toned to a darker grey colour that is contrasted with gilt highlights to the legs and beak, the mixed metal eyes are quite captivating and give you the impression that this particular owl is resting, although his ears are firmly pricked up suggesting he is very much alert. A fascinating and rare study of a majestic bird of prey ideal for your Japanese metalwork or okimono collection.
