As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this large and most charming Edo Period (1615-1868), ceramic fruit bowl manufactured during the late 17th century , circa 1680, at the wood fired kilns in Arita. The interior of the bowl very simply painted with Japanese scenes of pine trees, prunus and bamboo, simply representing the three friends of winter, the exterior nicely painted with trailing flora above concentric blue rings to the foot rim. For a large ceramic item to have survived in this condition for over 340 years is quite remarkable, the bowl remains perfectly functional for fruit or simply as a display .
