As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this rather large scale Edo Period (1615-1868) Imari bowl and cover, produced at the kilns of Arita during the Genroku period circa 1700 and likely destined for an important European country house of the period. The deep bowl with flared rim is decorated in traditional Imari pallette with pavilions in landscape garden settings set within formal decorated borders, the similarly decorated lid is unusually also decorated with scenes of prancing cattle. This highly decorative and functional ceramic bowl is in remarkably good condition and would make a bold statement in any room of your choice, a rare survivor of some 300 years .
