As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this rare artist finely carved Meiji period ( 1868 – 1912 ) circa 1880,  boxwood Netsuke of a Kappa crawling upon a Clamshell, the artist has captured a humorous rendition of the mythical creature clinging to the Shell, the Clamshell carved and polished to a superb lifelike finish, artist signed in an oval seal to the underside that translates to read ” Hokuzan”, a rarely seen artist , and as such a great addition to your Japanese Netsuke or works of art collection.
