As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this most endearing Meiji Period (1868-1912) bronze okimono of a hawk perched upon a rootwood base, the hawk cast and chiselled in exceptionally fine detail as you would expect from an okimono signed by the highly regarded Maruki company. The powerful bird of prey rests upon a rootwood base his head turned as if startled or possibly gazing towards its prey, the finely deliniated featherwork and unusual compacted pose give this bird a majestic yet rather inquisitive look, its piercing eyes picked out in gilt and shakudo . The okimono is pegged to stand freely upon a nicely polished rootwood display stand and would sit well upon a desk or indeed any shelving display of your choice, a handsome bird of prey by one of the luminary manufacturers of the late 19th century Meiji Period.
