As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer a rare and unusual Edo period (1615-1868) Ivory Netsuke depicting the lucky God of good fortune – Hotei , the large Netsuke of flattened form depicts Hotei at rest upon his treasure sack whilst clutching a Gunsen Uchiwa (fan ) in his right hand , the humorous chap appears to be completely at ease with the world , the Himotoshi to the rear has lovely signs of old wear and the rear itself has mellowed to a beautiful rich golden patination, a similar slightly smaller example sold at Sothebys in 2004 , see link below :
