As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this finely carved Meiji period 1868-1912 hardwood Okimono of an Oni with details highlighted in Gold lacquer , the humorous character is better known as Oni no nenbutsu , he carries a drum and a ledger , the ledger inscribed Hogacho ( donation ledger), he has finely carved features and hair, Gold lacquer highlighted teeth , toes and under garments , his hammer and scroll are also Gold lacquer decorated whilst his drum is centred with an ivory tablet , finally his bulging eyes appear to be Abalone shell inset with horn , a fantastic quality carved Okimono from the great Meiji period.

The condition is undamaged with light wear to the gilding .
