As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this large Meiji Period 1868-1912 damascened iron lidded box standing upon its fitted silver base, the cedar lined box is decorated with the scene of the Itsukushima shrine on the island of Miyajima , a Shinto shrine best known for its “floating” tori gate and is located in the city of Hatsukaichi in Hiroshima Prefecture, the outer body of the box finely damascened with chrysanthemum and Imperial mon dispersed against a backdrop of autumnal maple leaves between formal borders, the iron box is fitted to its original silver base standing on bracket feet and decorated beneath, by removing this base you reveal the artists signature that translates to Komai Seiebi, a superb quality and condition Iron box for your Japanese works of art collection.
