As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer this rare and unusual boxwood netsuke signed by the Edo period artist Nagamachi Shuzan , the wooden netsuke depicts a character wearing a Noh mask of Hannya whilst carrying a hammer behind his back , the netsuke was originally painted and gold lacquered and still retains most of its decoration some 200 years later , it is artist signed Shuzan in an oval reserve below the himotoshi at the rear , a rare survivor .

The condition is lovely with age related wear to the paint
