As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this large fine quality Meiji Period (1868-1912) cloisonne enamel box from the highly regarded studios of Ando Jubei, the over sized lidded box is predominately worked in musen or wireless enamels brilliantly shaded in the manner of Namikawa Sosuke’s iconic Mt fuji scenes, on this occasion Ando have added a flotila of watercraft picked out in gold wires to stunning effect , the box stands upon silver mounted bracket feet with the silver rims protecting the enamel, the rims stamped with the jungin pure silver mark, the interior heavily counter enameled in chocolate coloured enamel, a colour more typical of works by Ando jubei, finally the underside bears the company seal as well as an old collection label.

Provenance :

We previously supplied this box to a private collector having acquired it as part of a large group of enamels that came up for sale in the channel islands in 2014 , it was both a surprise and a pleasure to be given the opportunity to own it once more .
