As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer this large and unusual shaped Satsuma Koro (incense burner) painted in the style generically known as Imperial, during the mid Meiji period around 1880 , the koro stands upon three sweeping slender legs each decorated in vibrant colours upon a blue ground , the globular body is designed as three convex panels bordered by concave segments sweeping down from the top border and painted to match the legs , the three panels are finely enamelled with floral detail depicting Chrysanthemum and Peonies amidst fine gilt dust,  the Koro is topped off with a fine quality pierced & silvered lid ,it is signed to the underside with a gilt signature between a red seal and gilt mon, a complex shape to have potted, this piece has remained in totally original condition for around 130 years with minimal cleaning wear and staining .
