As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this late 17th early 18th century Genroku period (1688-1704) lidded bowl , the circular bowl and cover decorated in traditional Imari palette with opposing shaped panels of birds in flora between more formal geometric blue diaper borders, interspersed with gilt floral decorated roundels. The lid of the bowl rather unusually finished with a finial in the form of a peeling pomegranate fruit, a super quality and fine condition Edo period Japanese ceramic that would have sailed as part of a consignment from Japan over 300 years ago, wares of this type were destined to furnish the homes of wealthy Europeans and nobility, where they were highly prized. A most decorative and functional addition to your Japanese Ceramics or works of art collection.
