As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer this outstanding hand beaten globular Copper vase with Silver mounts, the charming subject depicts Hotei and attendant beside a child playing with a toy boat in his bathtub, the technique used to hand beat and then carve this exquisite piece was the result of two artists working in collaboration, one artist ( Masahide ) producing the vessel itself, the other leading artist ( Kyukosai yoshikatsu ) carving it in the Katakiribori manner with the addition of Gold inlaid highlights, the vase has been mounted to the top rim and base with solid Silver mounts to protect the thin hand beaten Copper, an incredibly rare and unusual vase from the mid Meiji period, artist signed to the rear ” Kyukosai yoshikatsu ” and further signed to the underside by ” Masahide “.

The condition is stunning throughout !
