As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this finely carved Japanese stag antler pipe case from the late Edo early Meiji period , the Kiseuzutsu is decorated to one side with scenes of a fisherman crossing a bridge with a mountainous village scene as the backdrop, the reverse equally well carved and cleverly depicting the continuation of the village scene with a farmer on his way to work , the carved outer stem forming a natural himotoshi, a delightful and very tactile object !
The condition is superb ,nicely aged mellow colour with natural wear and inclusions but no damage or cracks .
