As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this large rare Meiji period 1868-1912 shibuichi and silver mixed metal vase, the body is formed from solid shibuichi and has been cleverly overlaid with a molten silver neck, standing upon a silver base the vase depicts a pair of Egrets wading in a lake in a winter snow scene, the artist has cleverly captured melting snow upon the gold and shakudo heavily onlaid flora, the snow formed from thickly laid solid silver, the vase is incredibly well drawn and is a really rare find, there are  a couple of examples of this type of vase in the Khalili Collection metalwork II , both artist signed and sealed by the Ozeki company, and both by top drawer makers ,a fantastic addition to any serious Japanese works of art collection .

Literature :

The vase is signed by an artist known as Hisayuki koku/ also reads / Toshiyuki koku , who is recorded as having made a shibuichi koro for the Ozeki company, see https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/21786/lot/2181/. , we are not suggesting our vase was made for the Ozeki company but it would certainly fit the style, quality and period perfectly.

Provenance :

Formerly part of a high quality private UK collection and subsequently supplied by ourselves .
