As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to bring you this exceptional Meiji Period (1868-1912) mixed metal kodansu cabinet by the highly regarded Nogawa company of Kyoto, this heavy and fine quality cabinet is a “tour de force” of mixed metal inlays, the caramel bronze body has been inlaid with a multitude of mixed metals capturing tranquil garden scenes with birds and butterflies amidst native flora, the domed top decorated with implements amidst stylized clouds beneath an opulent gilt carrying handle, the cabinet stands upon silver mounted and decorated shakudo feet, the hinges finely inlaid, the interior houses a set of three graduated hardwood drawers each decorated with mixed metal onlaid work, the individual button handles in the form of silver and gilt chrysanthemum, carrying the Nogawa seal to the underside, a simply breathtaking jewel of a cabinet that would enhance the finest Japanese metalwork collection .
