As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this captivating life sized Meiji Period 1868-1912, bronze and mixed metal okimono in the form of an Indian runner duck, the artist Chikakuni has cast this incredibly rare subject okimono in exceptional detail with the duck displaying a certain whimsical charm as these humorous birds so often do, particularly when running . The carved bronze feather work is incredibly well rendered with copper detailing to the wings, the legs and beak also formed from copper with the eyes picked out in silver and shakudo. This free standing life size sculpture is signed within a silver seal to the underside by an artist known as Chikakuni, certainly a very competent bronze caster with an incredible eye for the anatomy of this particular subject .
