As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this most unusual Meiji period 1868-1912 damascened iron box by the Komai company of Kyoto, the lid of the box is most unusually decorated with a horse outside a stable block with more traditional scenes of mount Fuji and Lake Biwa in the distance, the exterior of the box is finely decorated with a plethora of butterflies in mixed alloys including copper, the interior has been further decorated with gilt chrysanthemums, this splendid box stands upon shaped bracket feet and carries the full Komai dragonfly seal mark to the underside thus dating it circa 1900 , a magical find and ideal addition to your Japanese metalwork collection or as an ideal gift for a loved one.
